Tonasket High School student serves as page in Olympia

Rade Pilkinton of Tonasket traveled to Olympia to serve as a legislative page in the state House of Representatives the week of March 4. He was sponsored by Rep. Joel Kretz, R-Wauconda.   The Tonasket High School student spent the week delivering messages and important documents to representatives, attending page school and learning how the Legislature operates.   “It was great having Rade help us out this month. His mom, Pamela, is very politically active and it is nice to see Rade shares the same interest,” Kretz said. “Giving our future leaders a solid understanding that the decisions made in Olympia impact generations to come is important to ensure we have responsible and thoughtful public officials.”   Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the weekly legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. At this point in the 2013 legislative session, a few more page opportunities are available.
